Maths

Aims

At Marchwood Junior School our intent is for all children to develop a deep, conceptual understanding of mathematics which is achieved through regular practice and retrieval of core knowledge and opportunities to reason and problem solve through carefully planned sequences of lessons.

Planning

We base our planning on the 2014 National Curriculum and the eight mathematical domains. This allows us to design a curriculum which is coherent, carefully sequenced and ambitious for all children. The mathematical domains are listed below:

  • Number and Place Value
  • Number (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division)
  • Fractions including decimals and percentages
  • Measures
  • Geometry (properties of shape and position and direction)
  • Ratio and proportion
  • Algebra
  • Statistics

If you have any questions regarding the mathematics curriculum please do not hesitate to contact your child’s classteacher or Mathematics lead, Mr Scallan (gscallan@marchwoodjun.co.uk).
